Labourer shot dead at home in Westmoreland

A labourer was shot and killed by unknown assailants at his home in Westmoreland early on Monday morning.

The deceased man has been identified as 22-year-old Junior Campbell of Train Line, Hartford, Westmoreland.

Reports are that about 12:30 a.m., the police were summoned to Hartford after explosions were heard coming from Campbell's home.

Upon their arrival, Campbell was found lying inside his house suffering from gunshot wounds to the upper section of his body.

He was taken to the Savanna-la-Mar Public General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The Savanna-la-Mar police, who are investigating, have not yet established a motive for the killing.

Westmoreland is one of three western parishes that have been under a state of emergency since April 30. The other two parishes are St James and Hanover.
