When students at 19 schools return to classes after the Labour Day holiday, they will find their campuses freshly painted with the help of Hardware & Lumber Limited and the True Value Foundation.

More than 570 gallons of paint were donated across the island in keeping with this year’s Labour Day theme, “Child Safety...it’s You, it’s Me, it’s All Ah We.”

Simone Mahabeer, Hardware & Lumber’s Marketing and Corporate Communications Manager said, “It is our pleasure to continue offering support to our communities islandwide. The H&L family is excited to be collaborating with the work that will be done on Labour Day to provide nurturing environments where children can work, play and flourish.” Over 100 H&L staff will be participating in Labour Day repainting projects.

Schools were selected from communities in Kingston, St. Catherine, Ocho Rios, Mandeville and Brown’s Town. Among the institutions receiving donations are Villa Road Primary, Dunrobin Primary and Gladys Sheriff Basic School. Each will receive supplies of True Value’s EasyCare Ultra-Premium Acrylic latex paint from select H&L Rapid True Value and H&L Agro stores, along with brushes and roller sets donated by Fleetwood Jamaica Limited.

The principal of the Glady’s Sheriff Basic School, Sharon Dennis said the school was grateful for the donation.

“We were very excited. The classrooms have been in need of paint for a while and we didn’t know where to start so H&L has really saved us. This Labour Day, parents, teachers, and people from the community will be here painting for the children,” she said.

True Value’s EasyCare Ultra Premium Acrylic Latex paint has earned asthma & allergy friendly® Certification Mark via an independent certification program established in the US, which helps consumers identify products more suitable for people with asthma and allergies.

Noel Watt, Principal at Dunrobin Primary believes that companies have a responsibility to support Jamaica’s education mission.

He said “I am happy to see H&L investing in schools. Having a clean space makes learning easier. Not enough is being done in terms of the learning environment of our children. I am grateful and I commend H&L for this initiative.”

Hardware & Lumber’s work in communities in which its stores; H&L Rapid True Value and H&L Agro are located is supported by the True Value Foundation which advocates for youth and serves as a catalyst to provide tools and resources to help youth realize their dreams and achieve their potential.
