Birthdays bring to mind self- indulgence, cake, ice-cream, dinner with friends and family or a simple day spent focused on self.

These might be the plans of the average young woman but Joni Jackson is different.

For the past four years this Toastmaster has committed her special day to giving back to not herself but the wider community by hosting a blood drive.

For this five year milestone she has partnered with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Jamaica (ICAJ) Toastmasters Club and amplified the event, making it bigger, better and greener than before.

Donors and well-wishers will be treated to a variety of games, prizes and surprises on Saturday - all hosted in an open, friendly environment. Alongside special environmental presentations throughout the day visitors are welcome to drop off their small recyclables.

Those who which to join Jackson and donate should be between the ages of 17 and 60; be in good health (not suffering from the cold or flu etc); have a meal within the first three hours of donating blood; not have tattoos less than the one year old.

The event takes place at the National Chest Hospital, 35 1/2, Barbican Road on Saturday starting at 9am.
