KC, Edwin Allen dominate sprint relays at Milo Western Relays
Kingston College (KC) and Edwin Allen High, the reigning champions of the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys’ and Girls' Athletics Championships, were in dominant form at the 42nd staging of the Milo Western Relays at G C Foster Sports College in Angels, St Catherine on Saturday.
KC won three of the four boys' sprint relays with the Class Three team setting a new meet record. The quartet posted 43.75 seconds to beat the previous record of 43.99, set four years ago. Excelsior High were well beaten into second place with 45.08 seconds, while Cornwall College finished third in 45.96.
The North Street boys completed their relay domination with victories in Classes One and Two, while St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS) stopped them in Class 4.
In the Boys' Class One 4x100m relay, KC came home in 40.63 seconds to beat STETHS (40.80) and Excelsior High (41.39). And in Class Two final, KC clocked 42.3 seconds for the victory over Manchester High (43.05) and STETHS (43.58).
In the Boys' Class 4 4x100m relay, STETHS came home in 46.46 to beat KC (46.92) and Cornwall College (48.12).
On the girls’ side, Edwin Allen won Classes One, Two and Four.
In the Girls' Class 1 4x100m relay, star athlete Kevona Davis ran the second leg as Edwin Allen won in 44.80 to beat Holmwood Technical (45.06) and Excelsior High (46.67).
Another star athlete Tia Clayton anchored Edwin Allen to victory in the Girls' Class 2 4x100m relay. Edwin Allen came home in 44.66 to beat Holmwood Technical (45.70) and Vere Technical (48.23).
In the Girls' Class Four 4x100m relay, Edwin Allen (48.35) easily beat Vere Technical (49.32) and Manchester High (49.67).
Holmwood topped the Girls’ Class 3 event in 47.38, beating Vere Technical (47.59) and Edwin Allen (47.79).
Tina Clayton, Tia's twin sister, led Edwin Allen to victory in the Girls' 4x200m open relays in a new meet record 1:34.02, beating the previous mark of 1:35.74 set in 2006 a new meet record. Holmwood Technical (1:36.04) and Excelsior High (1:38.60) finished second and third, respectively.
Holmwood Technical topped the Girls' 4x400m relay in a new record 3:36.47. Edwin Allen finished second in 3:38.74, while KC won the boys' equivalent in 3:10.79.
Holmwood Technical's Kiara Meikle ran 11.20 to lower the Girls' Class Three 80m hurdles record of 11.33. Kelly-Ann Carr of Edwin Allen ran 11.07 to equal the Girls’ Class Four 70m hurdles record.
Rickeisha Simms of Edwin Allen ran 2:12.76 for a new women’s 800m open record.
