KC coach: The team is not dependent on any single individual

Kingston College’s (KC) head coach Ludlow Bernard was very pleased that five players found the back of the net in the school's opening match of the 2018 ISSA/Digicel Manning Cup football competition.

KC whipped Dunoon Park Technical at the Stadium East field on Monday, a game in which Ugandan track star Arymanya Rodgers was handed his debut in football.

Last season, KC relied heavily on forward Rashawn Mackison.

Bernard said, “one of the things we really want to happen this year is for the sharing of the goals. Last year, probably Mackison would account for approximately 25 percent to 30 percent of the goals scored. This time around we want to spread it all around. It was good to see a couple of the players getting on the scoresheet more than once.

“What it is saying is that the team is not entirely dependent on any single individual, but it is going to be a collective effort."

KC squandered a number of other good goal scoring opportunities, but Bernard is expecting improvements going forward.

He said, “it being the first game of the season, we are pretty satisfied with the performance levels. Clearly there are rooms for lot more improvements and we will be looking forward to going back to the playing field and the practice sessions to improve the many areas in which we think we have some concerns.

“What we really wanted to do is to establish ourselves into this competition. We really wanted to get off the mark as quickly as possible and really get our campaign this year going, because we are looking forward to a very long campaign."
