JUTC driver charged for alleged theft
A driver at the state-owned Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) was arrested and charged with larceny as a servant on Wednesday.
It is understood that the driver, who is attached to the Spanish Town depot in St Catherine, allegedly transported approximately 60 passengers without tickets, which led to his arrest.
According to reports, the driver spent Wednesday night in police custody, but was released on bail on Thursday morning.
It is understood that the driver’s arrest has resulted in the company’s drivers in general, who are represented by the University and Allied Workers’ Union (UAWU), becoming restive, and there were plans to withdraw their services in support of their colleague.
The planned protest action was, however, called off after discussions on Thursday morning.
