Justin Burrowes out front at JGA Heroes Weekend Classic

Justin Burrowes has taken the lead at the Jamaica Golf Association's (JGA) Heroes Weekend Golf Classic at the Constant Spring Golf Club.

Burrowes posted two-under-par 68, comprising of four birdies on the front, nine and two bogeys on the back nine, to lead the field at the end of Saturday's opening day of the two-day event.

"The day was good.  I ended shooting two-under 68.  The course is in very good shape, and I am just happy with the way I played," Burrowes said.

"I am hoping that I can just finish off tomorrow with another good round, he further added.

Sean Morris on 73 and John O'Donaghue on 78 round off the top three.

Jodi Munn-Barrow had a good day to lead the female section.  She shot 74 or four-over-par. 

"Overall I am happy with today's game.  I just have to put down my head again tomorrow and see if I can get  another good score," she said.

Several juniors are also playing in the tournament.  Sebastian Azan (84), competing in the boys' 14-15 age-group leads the field.  

Ryan Lue (86) leads the boys' 11-13 category.  

Samantha Azan is the only competitor in girls' junior section.  Azan, an 11-13 age-group competitor,  carded 85.

Philip Gooden (74) is leading  the men & men's senior 7-12 handicap, followed by Tommy Lee (80) and Bruce Lopez (87).

Dr Guyan Arscott (81), Carlyle Husdon (82), and former president of the JGA Wayne Chai Chong (86) are the top three in the men's super senior 0-12 category.

The competition continues on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:00 am.

Forty golfers are competing in the classic.
