JPS ramps up installation of energy efficient LED streetlights

The Jamaica Public Service Company Limited (JPS) is reporting that it exceeded its target for the number of energy efficient LED streetlights that it installed across the island in 2017.

The light and power company said it installed 36,400 LED streetlights across several parishes, some 1,400 more than its target of 35,000.

JPS said it installed the street lamps in sections of St Catherine, Trelawny, Westmoreland, Hanover, Kingston and St. Andrew, St. James, St. Ann and St Mary. Several communities in Portmore, St Catherine have had the lamps installed.

According to the JPS, the LED streetlights are capable of remotely reading the consumption of each lamp; identify out-of-service lamps and provide for the dimming of lights when necessary.

It said the newly installed lights can also provide improved quality and reliability of streetlighting and are designed in line with international best practices.
