JPS cites generating shortfall for Saturday night’s widespread outage

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) has pointed to a shortfall in its electricity-generating capacity as the cause of a wide-spread and extended power outage on Saturday evening.

In a statement on Saturday night, the company said it had to initiate load shedding in some areas.

The affected parishes included Kingston, St Catherine, St Elizabeth, Hanover and St James.

The company has urged its customers to conserve on power usage to help reduce the impact of any such shortfall in its electricity-generating capacity.
