JMEA, PSOJ commend MLSS on move to review labour laws
The Ministry of Labour has responded to private sector calls for a revision of the Labour Laws and Code Procedures
The Labour Relations Code was tabled in a meeting of the Labour Advisory Council (LAC) on February 13. Following that development, the Ministry of Labour and Social Security (MLSS) has requested formal comments from key stakeholders “as to the issues/areas for inclusion in the review”.
The Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA), the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica (PSOJ) and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has since acknowledged and commended the development.
“The JMEA, PSOJ, and JCC jointly commend the minister and the LAC for their response and look forward to the review being conducted with fairness, transparency, and alacrity,” one spokesperson from JMEA said on Friday.
The spokesperson said members from the groups were grateful that the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Shahine Robinson has decided to utilize her authority and has acted on the recommendation to review the Act and its code and to consult with the private sector stakeholders in undertaking the modification.
