Jetcon Corporation Limited led gains in trading of the Jamaica Stock Exchange (JSE) on Thursday, a day marked by declines.
Jetcon gained eight per cent to close at $1.97. The closing price was two cents from the monthly high but 35 per cent lower than the price it started 2019. Also on the day, Caribbean Cement gained 7.4 per cent to close at $77.60.
Overall market activity resulted from trading in 66 stocks of which 26 advanced, 30 declined and 10 traded firm. SSL Ventures declined 13 per cent to $1.19 followed by Mayberry Investments, down 10 per cent on the day to $7.27.
The JSE Combined Index declined by 1,433.68 points (0.29 per cent) to close at 490,243.35.
The JSE Index declined by 1,247.57 points (0.25 per cent) to close at 493,541.80. The Junior Market Index declined by 26.40 points ( 0.78 per cent) to close at 3,352.15. The JSE USD Equities Index declined by 0.45 points ( 0.23 per cent) to close at 193.62. The JSE Financial Index declined by 1.17 points ( 0.87 per cent) to close at 133.30. The JSE Manufacturing & Distribution Index advanced by 1.02 points (1.06 per cent) to close at 97.47.
Market volume amounted to 16,964,619 units valued at over $76.1 million. Sagicor Select Financial was the volume leader with 9,763,264 units (57.6 per cent) followed by Dolphin Cove with 2,501,128 units (14.7 per cent) and Wigton Windfarm with 2,221,365 units (13.1 per cent) .
