Jeremy Farr clocks big personal best to silence Christopher Taylor

Jeremy Farr of Wolmer's Boys' School handed Christopher Taylor of Calabar High his first defeat over 400m at the Boys' and Girls' Athletics Championships on the fifth and final day of competition at the National Stadium on Saturday.

Farr came with a strong stretch run to split the Calabar pair of Taylor and Evaldo Whitehorne on his way to register a big personal best 45.65.

Taylor, the Class 2 and Class 3 record holder at Champs, held on for second in 46.38, while Whitehorne finished third in 46.54.

Earlier, Oneika Mcannuff of Hydel High and Akeem Weir of Kingston College (KC) also registered big personal best times over 400m on their way to gold medals.

Mcannuff outbattled Rickiann Russell of Holmwood Technical in the straight and then pulled away for the victory in a personal best 53.01 in the Girls' Class 3 400m. Russell crossed the line in 53.88. Clarendon College's Dejanea Oakley finished third in 54.09.

And Weir staved off a strong and determined challenge from Deshaun Gordon of Charlemont High to take victory in the Boys' Class 3 400m in a personal best 50.49. Gordon clocked 50.66 for his second place, while Jasauna Dennis of St Elizabeth Technical High School finished third in 51.15.
