JDF soldier gets bail on illegal gun charge
The Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) private who was allegedly held with an illegal firearm in East Kingston two Wednesday’s ago, was granted bail in court on Friday.
Jason Anderson, 27, of the Coast Guard was granted bail in the amount of $200,000 in the Gun Court.
The case against him arose after he was allegedly held with the illegal weapon in Rockfort.
Reports are that members of the Kingston East Operation team were on patrol when they stopped the soldier, who was seen walking on a roadway, and searched him.
A pistol with its serial number erased, with and a magazine containing 12 rounds of ammunition, was reportedly removed from his waistband.
Indications are that the soldier and seaman said he had found the gun, and in court on Friday, in making a case for bail for his client, attorney Oswest Senior-Smith suggested that there was a reasonable explanation for how the soldier came in possession of the gun, and contended that the security officer did not intend to use the weapon.
The accused is scheduled to return to court on November 30.
