The Department of Immigration in the Cayman Islands is searching for a Jamaican man who reportedly threatened immigration officers in that country with a machete last week.
According to a report from in the Cayman media, 43-year-old Fabian 'Jason' Hubert Williams, who is believed to be an illegal immigrant, threatened the officers when they attempted to question him about his status in the British territory.
The incident reportedly took place on Monday in the West Bay area of the territory.
After the altercation, Williams was said to have jumped through a window of an abandoned building and run into nearby bushes.
The Department of Immigration has reminded the public that it is an offence to help someone who does not have legal status to remain in the country, and persons doing so risk a maximum penalty of a fine of CI$50,000 or seven years in prison.
The department has asked for assistance in locating Williams, and have warned that he may be extremely dangerous.
In its advisory, the department said anyone who sees Williams or knows of his whereabouts, is urged not to approach him, but to quickly contact a confidential information hotline number or an email address, or otherwise, calling the 911 emergency number or visit a district police station.
