Jamaica's volleyballers begin campaign for CAZOVA gold medal tonight

Jamaica's women volleyballers  will be looking to top a field of eight in the Senior Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Championship at the National Indoor Sports Centre (NISC) in Kingston, starting on Wednesday.

It will end on Monday.

Jamaica will start their campaign against US Virgin Island at 8:00 pm.

Action starts at 1:00 pm with Martinique facing the Bahamas. The remaining matches on the opening day are  Suriname against Curacao at 3 pm and Trinidad and Tobago, who have won the past five editions,  playing Guadeloupe at 6 pm.

There will be an opening ceremony, starting at 5:00 pm.

Hosts Jamaica, will be looking to upstage the defending champions, thus bettering their second-place finish at the 2015 tournament. The Jamaicans have a new coach and management and they are hoping that this will work in their favour.

Jamaica's coach, Richard Chong said, "we expect to at least make the final and maintain our second-place ranking in CAZOVA and progress to the third round. With the change in the team, we hope that we can create history at home, with the appropriate support."

Trinidad and Tobago's coach Nicholson Drakes, said, "I expect that we will come and play good volleyball, play to our level, don't underestimate any team and take each game one at a time.

"We know that there are some good teams in CAZOVA volleyball and at any time, these teams can overthrow anybody and we are very mindful of this. So with the help of The Almighty, we're taking it day by day."

Trinidad and Tobago are drawn in Group D of the tournament, which also comprises Bahamas, Martinique and Guadeloupe.

Jamaica will be in Group E, that includes Curacao, Suriname and the US Virgin Islands.

From the eight-team CAZOVA finals, the top two teams overall will qualify to the third round of FIVB World Championship qualification while crowning the eventual champions of CAZOVA.
