A Jamaican woman was chopped to death, with her throat slashed on Saturday at the home where she lived in the British Virgin Islands (BVI).

Her husband, who is reportedly a native of St Vincent and the Grenadines has been taken into police custody in the BVI.

The BVI News said the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force indicated that the incident occurred at the couple's residence in the Greenland area of East End on the island of Tortola. 

BVI News reported that the man had previously been shot by gunmen during a robbery while on a visit to Jamaica to see the woman, who lived in Clarendon.

They reportedly got married after he recovered from the attack in Jamaica, and they later relocated to the BVI.
