Jamaican talent Akeem Bloomfield will compete at the 44th Gibson McCook Relays, scheduled for February 29, at the National Stadium in Kingston.
The organisers stated that MVP International will send a team to compete in the men's 4400m relay and Bloomfield will be among the quartet.
The other members of the MVP International quartet are Nathon Allen, Martin Manley and Terry Smith.
The 22-year-old Bloomfield announced his form six days ago when he won the men's 400m at the Muller Indoor Grand Prix in Glasgow, Scotland, the fifth stop on the 2020 World Athletics Athletics Indoor Tour.
Bloomfield, contesting his first indoor 400m race since setting a Jamaican indoor record of 44.86 in 2018, won in 46.20.
Allen was also in the line-up but finished sixth and last in 47.89.
Organisers have earlier this month announced that patrons attending this year's staging of the relay carnival will stand a chance to win cash prizes.
Chairman of the organising committee Professor Rainford Wilks had stated that the cash prizes to patrons is the latest initiative to get “these events more entertaining and attractive.”
“We have decided to introduce one other attraction and we had preliminary approval from the regulatory body - the Betting, Gaming & Lotteries Commission (BGLC) - that as of the Gibson McCook Relays 2020 our live audience will have a chance to win cash prizes from draws, which will take place on the entrance tickets,” explained Wilks.
“Throughout the day, there will be four draws of $5,000 each shared equally between bleachers fans and grandstand fans, another four draws of $10,000 each shared similarly and then a grand prize for the whole audience of $100,000. We believe that this will attract more fans, will add variety and along with the music will improve the attractiveness of the meet,” he further said.
Digicel will sponsor cash awards for the meet.
The communications and entertainment provider will award $150,000 to the most outstanding performance on the day. In addition to the cash prize, the most outstanding performer will also receive the Puma-sponsored Neville ‘Teddy’ McCook Trophy.
In addition, Digicel will also provide $100,000 to the top-performing boys’ school and the top-performing girls’ school.
