Jamaican reportedly held with illegal gun, ammunition in St Lucia

A Jamaican male was denied bail in a magistrate’s court in St Lucia on Monday on charges of illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.

The accused is Orville Andrew Pernell, who was remanded until January 7.

Police reports are that last Friday, Pernel was driving a motor vehicle towards Castries from Gros Islet at about 1:00 p.m., when he was stopped by a patrol team.

Reports are that two other persons were in the vehicle, including another Jamaican national, a friend of Pernel, who had arrived on the eastern Caribbean island only a day before.

The police team reported that a .380 Mauser pistol and a number of rounds of ammunition were taken from Pernel.

He was subsequently arrested and charged in relation to the alleged seizure.
