The Jamaican man who is suspected to have orchestrated the chopping deaths of his wife and his young daughter in Miami in the United States on Saturday, was arrested by Miami Gardens police on Tuesday.

The suspect has been identified as 57-year-old Noel Chambers, otherwise called 'Massive', of Miami Gardens in Florida, and Jamaica. He is accused of hacking to death his 49-year-old wife, Lorice Harris and 10-year-old daughter, Shayla Chambers.

Another daughter, 29-year-old Shanalee Chambers, survived the assault, but has been hospitalised in critical condition.

Following a three-day manhunt, Chambers was found hiding near Fire Station 38 in the 500 Block of Northwest 199th Street just before 6:00 p.m., according to US media reports.

He has since been questioned by Miami Gardens police for several hours, and is being held without bond in Miami-Dade County's Turner Guilford Knight Correction Centre.

He is expected to be slapped with two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

According to Miami Gardens police, when they arrived at the couple's Miami Gardens apartment about 11:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, they found Harris' mutilated body on a back porch, her juvenile daughter inside the apartment, and the adult daughter outside the apartment “suffering from multiple wounds”.

A machete was used to commit the heinous crimes, investigators said.

Shortly after preliminary investigations, lawmen named Noel Chambers, described as "a hulking man known to friends in Jamaica and Miami by the nickname 'Massive'", as the prime suspect.

At a press conference held at the Miami Gardens police headquarters on Monday, family members of Lorice Harris said they believed that at the heart of the machete attack was that the couple's 10-year marriage was being brought to an end.

Family members told reporters that Harris, a home-care nurse, went to Jamaica about a decade ago to marry Chambers and help him migrate to the US.

The two had been living in a Miami Gardens apartment in the 600 Block of Northwest 177th Street with their daughter, Shayla.

Harris' family members reportedly described Noel Chambers as a controlling man who oftentimes tried to isolate his wife from other family members. However, they reportedly said that prior to the killings, they had not noticed any type of physical abuse by Chambers towards his wife.
