Jamaican man arrested for allegedly raping teenager in the US
A Jamaican-born man was arrested and charged by the Suffolk Country police in the United States for allegedly raping a 14-year-old girl recently.
The accused, 33-year-old Ricardo Gurdon of Long Island, USA, was charged with first-degree rape and first-degree criminal sex act.
Gurdon is a naturalised US citizen from Jamaica, who has lived in the US for 10 years and had no prior arrests, according to US media reports.
Allegations are that on Wednesday, June 26, at about 12:00 p.m., police officers responded to an alert from an apartment complex on Country Club Drive in Coram after the teenager reported that she had been sexually assaulted by a man inside an apartment at the complex.
In giving further details of the crime, Suffolk police Chief of Detectives, Gerard Gigante, said the teen, who had no prior relationship with Gurdon, was walking alone through the Fairfield Courtyard complex from a relative's apartment, to visit some friends, when she reportedly saw a man standing in the doorway of a unit she was passing.
The man allegedly engaged her in conversation, and the girl went inside the apartment. It was at that time that Gurdon allegedly sexually assaulted and raped her against her will.
The child was examined at a hospital after the incident was reported to lawmen.
Gurdon, who had been living in the complex, was arrested elsewhere, according to US authorities.
The police have appealed to witnesses to the alleged incident to come forward.
