Jamaican dollar gains 8 cents

The Jamaican dollar gained eight cents on Monday trading into the lower half of $135 territory, according to the Bank of Jamaica (BOJ) trading data.

The dollar closed Monday at $135.49 from  $135.77, resulting in the dollar trending into the $135 territory.

In March the dollar hit its strongest position in over 12 months when it entered the $124 territory.  Since that time, the local currency has depreciated.

The pound closed at $171.66 from $172.50 and Canadian dollar closed at $98.44 from $101.57.
