Jamaican dollar down by 89 cents

The local currency depreciated 89 cents against the US dollar on Wednesday, according to the trading summary from the Bank of Jamaica.

The dollar dipped to $135.48 from $134.59 on the previous trading day.

The British Pound Sterling closed lower at $166.93 from $167.16 and the Canada dollar closed at $104.85 from $101.45.

In March the dollar hit its strongest position in over 12 months when it entered the $124 territory against the US dollar.  Since that time, the local currency has depreciated.
