Jamaican dollar closes at $138 on Monday

The local currency depreciated by four cents to enter the $138 territory against the US dollar on Monday, according to the trading summary from the Bank of Jamaica.

The dollar closed Monday’s trading at $138.00 from $137.96 on Friday.

It was the second-lowest trading position ever for the local currency against the US counterpart following $138.10 last Thursday.

In March, the dollar hit its strongest position in over 12 months when it entered the $124 territory against the US dollar.  Since that time, the local currency has depreciated. 

The British Pound Sterling closed lower at $171.87 from $171.74 and the Canada dollar closed at $105.83 from $105.88.
