Jamaica weather: afternoon showers across most parishes anticipated

SIGNIFICANT FEATURE… A high pressure ridge builds across Jamaica as a trough deepens across northwestern Cuba.

Comment…  The high pressure ridge is to build across the island lingering throughout the weekend. Additionally, a Low-Level Jet Stream is expect to move across the central Caribbean causing windy conditions across the island and especially along the south coast throughout this period.

There is a  deepening Trough across northwestern Cuba which will further develop into an area of low pressure today, thereby inducing a Trough across the western Caribbean (see below other current regional feature).

Partly cloudy with possible isolated showers mainly across eastern and central parishes, generally fair elsewhere. Windy especially along south coast.
This Afternoon… Showers across most parishes with isolated thunderstorms across western and north-central parishes, otherwise partly cloudy. Windy especially along the south coast.

A Small craft warning is in effect for inshore and offshore areas of the south coast and offshore areas of the north coast due to strong winds and rough seas.

A trough across northwestern Cuba and south of Florida, has a 70 percent chance of Tropical Cyclone development within the next 48 hours and an 80 percent chance within the next five days. The area is currently associated with cloudy conditions with showers and thunderstorms along with gusty winds.
