Jamaica international Samardo Samuels to join Iranian basketball club

Jamaica international Samardo Samuels looks set to join his fourth club in just six months after reportedly signing a deal with Iranian basketball club Petrochimi Bandar.

The former Cleveland Cavaliers and Louisville player must certainly be hoping for a more productive start to the New Year as the last several months could fairly be described as a globe-trotting fiasco.

In August of last year, Samuels signed with Spanish club Real Betis Energía Plus but spent less than a month with the team after a public dispute with the coach led to the cancellation of his contract.

The 6ft 9in player then took his trade to Israel where he joined up with Maccabi Haifa.  Samuels featured as a non-roster invitee for the team’s preseason NBA tour in September but was not signed by the club.

In October he managed to secure a contract with Serbian club KK Partizan but was suspended after just one month for violating the team’s disciplinary code and the provisions of his contract.

The controversial comments, which came a day after Partizan lost in a EuroCup game against Alba Berlin, were reportedly posted to the player’s social media platform Instagram.

Samuels was accused of sexism after claiming he did not typically give interviews to female journalists and later also criticized coach, Miroslav Nikolic, after receiving only limited minutes and the club for not paying him the first month of salary.
