Jamaica's Reggae Boyz held defending champions Mexico to a 0-0 draw in their top-of-the-table Group C match of the 2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA on Thursday night at the Sports Authority Field.

The results means that Jamaica and Mexico are locked atop the four-team points' table on four points, one ahead of El Salvador, who defeated Curacao 2-0 in the day's opening game.

Both sides moved to 1W-1D-0L after two games, but Mexico occupy first place as a result of them scoring more goals (three to two).

The winners and runners-up from each of the three groups, plus the two best third-placed teams will advance to the quarter-finals.

The game was a rematch of the 2015 final, which produced four goals in the Tricolor’s 3-1 triumph.

On this occasions a couple of Gold Cup streaks were broken as the Jamaicans avoided defeat to Mexico for the first time in seven all-time Gold Cup matches, while Mexico had their four-game Gold Cup winning streak snapped. However, Mexico extended their unbeaten run to eight games.

Goals were difficult to come by on the night.

The Mexicans had the best opportunities as Erick Torres fired a shot off the right post in the 23rd minute and Jesus Molina forced defender Jermaine Taylor to head his attempt off the goal line in the 39th minute.

Andre Blake, voted Major League Soccer's top goalkeeper in 2016, demonstrated why in the 53rd minute, diving to his right to save Elias Hernandez's effort from 24 yards.

The final set of games in the group will take place on Sunday at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Jamaica will face third-place El Salvador (1-0-1, 3) in the first game, while Mexico take on now-eliminated Curacao (0-0-2, 0)
