Jamaica Energy Partners (JEP) and West Kingston Power Partners (WKPP) will on Friday disburse scholarships valued at over $11 million to 30 Primary Exit Profile (PEP) achievers and seven tertiary students.

The ceremony, to be held at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel, Talk of the Town, will commence at 9am. Minister of Science, Energy and Technology, Fayval Williams will deliver the main address.

The PEP students, who will transition to high school this upcoming school term, will receive $35,000 while tertiary recipients will receive scholarships valuing $250,000 or grants of $180,000. The scholarships will be re-awarded until the completion of their study, once a B+ average is maintained.

“At JEP and WKPP, we believe that access to higher education is key to the advancement of our nation. Over the past 20 years, education has been a pivotal part of JEP’s corporate social responsibility portfolio, as such, we strongly endorse students dedicated to achieving the highest level of education and take pride in providing the necessary materials and resources required for them to excel,” JEP said in a statement.

In 1997, JEP officially established its scholarship and grants programme for Region Six. In 2012, affiliate company, WKPP also developed a scholarship fund to support Region One.

Since the implementation of both programmes, JEP and WKPP have assisted over 1,000 students at the secondary and tertiary levels.

Although JEP’s scholarship programme focuses on fulfilling the academic pursuits of our youth, the programme also plays an integral role in the personal and professional lives of JEP’s current scholarship recipients.

Tertiary recipients are required to participate in at least three outreach events per year, which include volunteering at JEP/WKPP Health and Dental Fairs, Labour Day projects and environmental initiatives such as Tree Planting and International Coastal Clean-up Day.

The companies will also award two top achievers who are children of current employees.
