The Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC) has welcomed the appointment of new Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson.

JCC President, B Larry Watson, in response to the development, noted that the business association had recently urged the Police Service Commission (PSC) to act expeditiously on the matter of appointing a new police commissioner, given the urgencies facing the economy which have been exacerbated by the levels of crime in the country.

“It is important that the new Commissioner hits the ground running,” said the JCC president, adding that “… Major General Anderson is in an excellent position to do so, given his current engagement as the National Security Advisor.”

Watson said the JCC is mindful of the scale of the challenges facing the new Commissioner, and stressed that the nation must be prepared to give him and his team the resources that will be necessary to do the job effectively.

“This time around, we cannot, in effect, set up the commissioner and the senior officers of the JCF for failure,” said Watson, noting that, “Our crime problems did not suddenly appear overnight, and they will not disappear overnight.

“For our part, we welcome the new appointment and pledge our support to such initiatives as he and his team will roll out in the months ahead,” added Watson.
