Ishawna lands movie deal
Dancehall star Ishawna will soon be ready to make her feature film debut, making her move to the big screens as early as next year.
The 'One and Lose' stunner has been approached by US independent film-maker Royalty and Respect Films, to be a lead actress in their new feature movie
When contacted Monty Green, the chief executive officer of Royalty and Respect Films, told Loop Jamaica reporter Claude Millls that he was excited to have signed her on board for the project.
"Ishawna is multi-faceted and multi-talented, and a real natural. We know she will be a good fit for the movie and we are looking forward to filming with her in Jamaica and hopefully in the USA as well. We spent some time in Jamaica last year scouting locations, and we heard about her and approached her because we want to use people who know the culture and are instantly recognizable with the public," Green said.
He revealed that Ishawna would play a supporting role and her character would be a talented dancehall deejay who is working as a dancer, while waiting on her big break.
"It' s a real rags to riches story, rooted in the gangster and drug culture of Jamaica. The script is not finalised yet but we hope to start filming before the end of this year," Green said.
Green said the indie film's last movie, 'Lost', was a hit and even recognized by the Filmmaker international Film Festival Award, which took place in London, copping two awards, one for best film and the other for the talented former Instagram model LaToya Ward for best actress.
Ishawna called it an "honour to be cast in a movie".
"And you know girl a just be festive and make my fan base proud because girl a deal with tings like a boss not a sketel. I also have some huge collaborations coming up with some Grammy award winning artist and some hot rappers in the USA," Ishawna said.
Ishawna has been on a tear with her singles, 'One and Lose' and 'Slippery When Wet' racking up over 300,000 views each on youtube after within one month of being released. She is also in heavy demand at parties here and in the USA especially because of her loyal female fan base.
However, her Festive Tuesday party at Taboo is breaking all the rules. The event, which is held every Tuesday at the Constant Spring Road location, attracts over a 1,000 people weekly.
"I will be bringing a Festive Tuesday vibe to Mobay only it will be every other Wednesday, and the first event will be July 18th," she said.
Ishawna said her fans have been demanding her presence out west.
"The fans were in my dm after every Festive Tuesday asking when I was going to bring it to Mobay, and that they needed Festive Tuesdays in Mobay, so me and the Todds talked about it, and we're turning Wednesday nights in Mobay to Festive Tuesdays down there. Ladies should come out early, they will be free until 11 pm and we're closing at 2 so everyone has to come out early for the festivities," she said.
