INDECOM concerned by hike in police fatal shootings

In addressing a press briefing on Monday, Assistant Commissioner of INDECOM, Hamish Campbell, said 31 persons have been killed by the security forces over the last 58 days, while 11 others have been shot and wounded by the security forces.

He said INDECOM is worried about the trend so far this year.

This is even more so, considering that there was an increase in security forces' fatal shootings last year, when compared to 2015, this after decreases the years immediately before.

A total of 111 persons were killed by the security forces in 99 incidents in 2016, in comparison to 101 fatalities in 2015.

Of last year’s fatal shootings involving the security forces, members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) accounted for 106, and the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) four, while there was one death in the custody of the Department of Correctional Services (DCS).
