I Am Di One humbles Lady Blue in 1000 Guineas
Leading trainer Anthony Nunes saddles I Am The One.
Anthony Nunes' I AM DI ONE humbled rival Wayne DaCosta's 6-5 favourite, LADY BLUE, impressively winning Saturday's 1000 Guineas at a mile.
Nunes, the leading trainer, posted a four-timer - EXHILARATE and BRUCE WAYNE in races six and seven, respectively, followed by I AM DI ONE and PRINCE CHARLES to close the 10-race card.
I AM DI ONE went gate-to-wire on her second outing, taking control from the start and turned back LADY BLUE, who challenged three-and-half furlongs out with Omar Walker.
Partnered by Barbadian jockey, Simon Husbands, 9-5 chance I AM DI ONE ran away on entering the straight to win by three and three-quarter lengths ahead of LADY BLUE, who stayed on for second from 74-1 outsider, CASUAL DRINK.
Meanwhile, apprentice Christopher Mamdeen rode a three-timer to overhaul Walker, the six-time former champion jockey, atop the riders' standings after starting the afternoon two winners adrift.
Mamdeen moved to 26 winners, surpassing Walker's 25, with back-to-back victories astride LET IT SNOW and PRINCE KAMALI to open the 11-race card, followed by GOD OF LOVE in the 10th.
Guineas weekend continues on Sunday with the running of the 2000 Guineas in which another showdown is expected with DaCosta's unbeaten RUN THATCHER RUN facing a quartet of Nunes runners - SUPREME SOUL, TOONA CILIATA, EARN YOUR STRIPES and TRICKY ONE.
