Huge ganja bust in Montego Bay; one arrested

A man has been taken into custody following the seizure of over 2,000 pounds of ganja with a street value of about $10 million in Montego Bay, St James during an operation by members of the Police Narcotics Division on Thursday morning.

It is believed that the drug was being prepared for the export market.

Reports are that about 12:30 a.m., a police team conducted an anti-narcotics operation in the Reading area of Montego Bay, where they visited a premises.

On their arrival, men were seen running from the premises.  During an ensuing pursuit, one of the men was held.

Further checks on the premises revealed a number of knitted bags containing compressed ganja and hash oil weighing approximately 2,000 pounds.

The man who was held was taken into custody on reasonable suspicion of breaches of the Dangerous Drugs Act, and is to be interviewed by the police in the presence of his attorney.
