Honey Bun Foundation wants to be a 'game changer' for SMEs

There is more help on the way for Small and Medium sized Enterprises, especially the creative industry, with the launch of The Honey Bun Foundation.

Launched on Tuesday November 12, 2019 at Devon House in St Andrew, the philanthropic arm of Honey Bun Limited is set to be a ‘game-changer’.

Founder of The Honey Bun Foundation, and Chief Executive Office of Honey Bun Limited, Michelle Chong, explained: “The Honey Bun Foundation was founded out of a passion to bring what I saw were great people with a love for Jamaica and a genuine love of what they are doing; but something was missing. How can we come together to achieve a greater strategy than what we individually strive for? The whole has always been greater than its parts.”

With the Foundation’s mission being, ‘Creating powerful business models for SMEs and the Creative Industry to become transformational industries for Jamiaca’s economy,” general manager Nashauna Lalah, explained that the Foundation will be SMEs' best friend.

“We will support these business owners to navigate their way through the daunting maze of the business world while sharpening their skills and strengthening their business models. We are committed to doing this because we know very well the impact of SMEs, not only on the national economy, but on the individuals - the sons, daughters, children and parents of entrepreneurs who are part of the journey, and whose own lives are impacted by the success or failure of these SMEs,” Lalah said.

The first four programmes of the Foundation are: A National Training Calendar; a digital business assessment app; a model for advisory boards, unique to Jamaica; and a powerful business model for back-office support for those businesses that require stronger business support.

Also speaking at the launch was General Manager of the Development Bank of Jamaica, Milverton Reynolds, who praised the Honey Bun Foundation’s team for a “bold and game-changing move.” He said, “With the increased interest and current boom in growth of small businesses in Jamaica, my confident prediction is that the Honey Bun Foundation platform will definitely be a welcome addition, and a boon to resources which presently exist for SMEs.”

He added, “The DBJ is 100 per cent supportive of this initiative and we commit our assistance as far as we can, to make it a success.”
