There will be another by-election at the Local Government level as voters in the Homestead Division of the St Catherine Municipal Corporation (SCMC) are set to go to the polls on Friday, May 18 to elect a new councilor.
The seat became vacant following the untimely death of the Jamaica Labour Party's (JLP) Owen Palmer in a motor vehicle crash in March.
The party will be represented by Mark McLean, who will be challenged by Janet Grayson of the Opposition People’s National Party.
The date for the by-election was announced on Friday, April 20, by the Chairman of the SCMC, Mayor Norman Scott at a press conference in Spanish Town.
Nomination Day will be on May 1.
The Homestead Division has been a JLP stronghold and has not been won by the PNP since 1981.
Two other by-elections are to be held on April 27 in St Thomas and Clarendon to fill vacancies.
