Prime Minister Andrew Holness is scheduled to read the first lesson at the official funeral service for former Cabinet Minister, the late Easton Douglas.

Douglas died on Sunday, August 26, following a long battle with cancer.

The Government, through the Cabinet, has accorded him an official funeral.

The funeral service will take place Thursday at the St Andrew Parish Church at 10 am.

In paying respects to the former Member of Parliament and Cabinet Minister in Parliament on Tuesday, Prime Minister Holness described Douglas as a distinguished gentleman who served Jamaica well.

Holness added that Douglas built a reputation that will last beyond death as a passionate, dedicated, humble man who worked hard in serving the people of Jamaica.

Douglas was Member of Parliament of South East St Andrew from 1989 to 2002. He served as Minister of Health, and the Public Service as well as Housing, Land and the Environment under two former Prime Ministers.

He was also a Permanent Secretary and Government Town Planner.

The body of Douglas will be interred at the St Dorothy’s Church grounds in Old Harbour, St Catherine.
