Hit-and-run driver involved in two-year-old child’s death, now charged

The driver of the motorcar that mowed down and killed two-year-old Sasha-Gaye Dennis and injured her 10-year-old sister in Montego Bay, St James last month, has been charged by investigators.

The accused, 21-year-old Max Desouza of St Thomas, has been slapped with charges, including causing death by dangerous driving.

Reports are that about 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 23, the two sisters, their mother and two other siblings were crossing a section of Howard Cooke Boulevard in Montego Bay, when the two sisters were hit down by a Nissan Note motorcar which was heading in the direction of Coral Gardens.

The two girls were taken to the Cornwall Regional Hospital, where the two-year-old was pronounced dead and her sister was admitted in a serious condition.

The driver sped away from the scene.

He later surrendered to the Morant Bay police, and was transferred to St James for questioning.
