Higgler killed, motorcyclist injured in Annotto Bay gun attack

Police investigators are probing the shooting death of a female higgler who was shot while travelling on a motorcycle at the intersection of the Annotto Bay main road and Cargill Lane in St Mary on Saturday night.

The driver of the motorcycle was also injured during the attack, the police reported.

The deceased woman has been identified as 40-year-old Valerie Richards, otherwise called ‘Lori’, of Gibraltar in Annotto Bay.

The police reported that about 12:15 p.m., Richards was a pillion on a motorcycle that was being driven by the man in an easterly direction, when upon reaching the intersection, they were pounced upon by two men on foot, who were armed with handguns.

The assailants opened gunfire, hitting the two persons on the bike.

Both were taken to the hospital, where Richards was pronounced dead.

The injured man was treated and released, the police said.
