HEROES DAY AWARDS: Shabba Ranks honoured with OD

Rexton Gordon, better known as ‘Shabba Ranks’, was bestowed with the honour of the Order of Distinction (Officer Class) by Governor General Patrick Allen on Monday morning.

He was among a number of Jamaicans honoured at the annual Heroes' Day Awards ceremony at King's House in St Andrew.

Shabba was recognised for his contribution to Jamaican music locally and internationally.

The Seaview Garden-raised deejay was one of the most popular dancehall artistes of the late 1980s to early 1990s, and gained international fame through a numver of crossover hits such as Trailer Load A Girls, Mr Loverman and Family Affair.

He won two Grammy awards for Best Reggae Album: As Raw As Ever (1992) and X-tra Naked (1993).
