Henry Thomas secures CB UWI 5K title

The eighth annual CB Group UWI 5K and Smart Eggs Kids K was successfully executed last Sunday at the University of the West Indies (UWI) Mona Campus. Fresh off the heels of his ICWI Reach to Recovery Pink Run victory, Henry Thomas of UCT Steppas secured the 5K Run champion title with a strong finish.

He crossed the line in 15 minutes 42 seconds.

Thomas was followed by Javon Francis of GC Foster College, 16:09, while Kemar Leslie of Rainforest Seafoods closed out the top three in 16:15. 

All proceeds from the CB Group UWI 5K will go directly towards the development of sports and the education of the most talented and in-need students at the Mona Campus.

Shanice Gordon of GC Foster College outbattled Samantha James of Wolmer's Girls to win the female category. Gordon clocked 19:36 for the victory, just ahead of James, who did 19:38. Arieta Martin of Rainforest Seafoods placed third in 20:04.

In the 5K walk, Karlene Balgrove of Pacers Running Club and Duwell Allen of Creation Foods clocked 31:42 and 25:21 to top the female and male category respectively. In the 5K wheelchair category, Syliva Grant and Navardo Griffiths clocked 30:35 and 25:50 to top the female and male category respectively.

In the Smart Eggs Kids K, 11-year-old Rihanna Taylor clocked 5:43 to win the girls' section and Brandon Davis, also 11, took the boys' section in 4:59.

In the group categories, St Jago High School copped the trophy for best performing 5K run team and ELR Towers Hall took home the Hall championship trophy. Largest participating Hall went to Az Preston and the largest participating team aptly went to CB Group.
