Guns bark, cutting down two men in May Pen
Guns barked on Bromanty Street close to the town centre in May Pen, Clarendon on Tuesday.
When the smoke cleared, two men were dead. They have been identified as 23-year-old Sheldon Nelson, otherwise called ‘Papa’, vendor of Rectory Road, and 20-year-old Romain Grant, otherwise called ‘Bigga’, of Sevens Road, both in the parish capital, May Pen
The May Pen police reported that minutes before 10:00 a.m., Nelson was pushing a handcart along Bromanty Street with Grant walking alongside him. Suddenly, two men approached them and peppered them with bullets before fleeing the scene on foot.
Both injured men died on the spot.
There have been reports that the attack may have been an act of reprisal for a killing in the town days before.
Clarendon has been under the gun over recent years as gunmen wreak havoc in the parish capital and other districts. The parish is the second largest in the island, and has proven difficult to police, report due to a number of areas where comfort has been widely extended to criminals.
Also, the terrain, with extensive wooded areas ideal for hideout, including near the parish capital, has made it relatively easy for criminals to seek refuge in the bushes and hills after committing very serious offences.
