Three occupants of a truck were shot and seriously injured Tuesday night after they were ambushed by gunmen along the Barrett Town main road in St James, which is among three western Jamaica parishes currently under a state of public emergency.

The police surmise that the attackers were attempting to rob the occupants of the vehicle which was believed to be transporting an undetermined amount of cash.

Reports from the St James police are that about 9:00 pm, the International truck with three men aboard was travelling along the Elegant Corridor when it was intercepted by men travelling in a motorcar who opened fire.

The truck driver managed to escape by driving the vehicle onto the premises of the Coral Gardens police station.

Police are investigating the incident, which comes jst over two months after a brazen murder and robbery, in the same parish, that featured two vehicles transporting cash coming under heavy gunfire.
