‘Gun slinger’ killed by cops minutes after he allegedly shot man
A man was fatally shot by police during an operation in a section of Denham Town in West Kingston on Wednesday just minutes after he reportedly carried out a gun attack on a man in the community.
A firearm was recovered in the operation.
Reports are that a team of police officers was on patrol along Elgin Street in a section of Denham Town when they heard loud explosions in the area.
The law enforcers moved towards where the shots were being fired, and saw a man running with a gun in hand.
Reports are that the man had just shot a man in the area, and was making his escape.
When the reported trigger man saw the police, he is said to have opened fire at the cops, who returned the fire and a shootout ensued.
At the end of the exchange, the area was search and the man who was carrying the gun was found suffering from gunshot wounds.
A firearm was also found.
The police continued the search and the man who was attacked by the alleged gunman was also found.
Both men were taken to hospital, where the alleged shooter was pronounced dead and the other man was admitted for treatment.
The identity of the deceased man has not yet been released.
The operation was carried out days after four people were shot, two fatally, in two separate gun attacks in Denham Town.
Since the initial shootings, a curfew was imposed in the community on Tuesday, April 23, and will remain in effect until 6:00 p.m. on Friday, April 26, the police reported.
The boundaries of the curfew are as follows:
NORTH: Along Race Course Lane (Blount Street) from the intersection of Little King Street traveling to the fence line forming the western the periphery of the Golden Heights Housing Development, also annexing the northern and eastern sections of the same development, traveling south along the paved gully and continuing to the intersection of William Street and Upper Rose Lane.
EAST: Along Rose Lane from the intersection of William Street continuing south along Roe Lane to the intersection of Beeston Street and Rose Lane.
SOUTH: Along Beeston Street from Rose Lane continuing west along Beeston Street to the intersection of Spanish Town Road and southwest along Spanish Town Road to Little King Street (excluding the Denham Town High School and Denham Town Police Station).
WEST: Along Little King Street from Spanish Town Road to the the intersection of Race Course Lane (Blount Street).
During the hours of the curfew, all persons within the boundaries are required to remain within their premises unless otherwise authorised in writing by the ground commander.
