Grenada’s Ministry of Education has announced plans to implement a mandatory hour of prayer, at all schools at the start of the new school term.

A statement which was issued on Thursday, said that the hour of prayer will be held during the mid-morning period on January 6, the date set for the reopening of all schools.

“The theme for the activity is: Teach Me to Pray and to Understand the Power of Prayer. It is expected that all schools, within the State of Grenada, will be engaged in prayer, simultaneously, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am (local time),” the ministry said.

A Minister of Religion, or a suitably designated person, will be assigned to facilitate the programme at each school.

The schools national prayer hour will be coordinated by the Ministry of Education, Human Resource Development, Religious Affairs and Information in collaboration with schools and Ministers of Religion.

The release further stated that “As part of the activity, prayers will be offered up for all members of each school family and the education system, as a whole. There will be time for reflection and meditation and for praise and worship.”

Grenada’s education ministry has also announced plans to implement a new nutritional policy.

This policy prohibits the selling and consumption of soda and other sweet snacks on the school compound and at school-based events.
