Great places for Mother’s Day brunch

Mother’s Day is next Sunday, so there’s still time to make a reservation for brunch. There are some great options in Kingston, from fancy spreads in major hotels to niche dishes at local breakfast hotspots. Here are Loop’s picks:

Tea Tree Creperie on Lady Musgrave Road is known for its breakfast and brunch fare. All kinds of crepes are on offer – their signature dish is the smoked marlin crepe with cream cheese, capers and homemade chunky pepper jelly – and there are also treats like eggs Benedict and grilled four-cheese calzone. Call 978-7333 for reservations.

Fromage, on Hillcrest Avenue, is another brunch favourite. Its menu features dishes like blueberry pancakes, cinnamon raisin French toast, a goats cheese and chive scramble and a Greek omelette, as well as a host of coffees and juices. Call 622-9856 for reservations.

Pegasus Hotel is serving a special Mother’s Day brunch from 11:00AM-03:00PM. The spread includes salad, soup, platter, hot food, carvery and dessert stations, plus a live band and activities for children. Price: $6,500 for adults, $4,500 for children between the ages of 4 and 10. Call 926-3691 for reservations.

Boon Hall Oasis: This green estate in Stony Hill runs a regular Sunday brunch and on Mother’s Day will be serving a special menu. You can also enjoy lush grounds and a garden centre. Call 756-2768 for reservations.

The Courtleigh Hotel and Suites is also offering a special Mother’s Day menu from 12:00AM-03:00PM (and also in the evening). Highlights include lemon shrimp on couscous, beef tenderloin and chocolate mousse cake. Price: $4,200 for adults, $2,500 for children. There’s also a kids’ menu and a kids’ club available. Call 929-9000 for reservations.

Terra Nova kicks off its Mother’s Day brunch at 10:30AM and it runs until 04:00PM, promising “80 delectable food options”. Price: $4,392 per person. Call 926-2211 for reservations.

Eleni’s Bakery is a great option for coffee and pastries. The bakery is located in Sovereign North Plaza and its croissants, pain au chocolat, baguettes and cakes are cooked on site. There’s also a menu featuring sandwiches and salads.

Uncorked, also in Sovereign North, is opening on Sunday with a special menu for Mother’s Day. Highlights include spicy shrimp tapas with mangoes, classic crab cake Benedict and a prosciutto and goats cheese omelette. Call 970-3406 for reservations.

Chez Maria, on Lady Musgrave Road, opens at 11:00AM on Mother’s Day. It combines Lebanese and Italian food and is adding some extra dishes to its menu for the day. The Bailey’s cheese cake sounds particularly tempting. Call 927-8078 for reservations.

100 Hope Road also opens at 11:00AM offering Mother’s Day dishes including buttermilk pancakes and a “yardie special” featuring akee and saltfish, callaloo and fried dumplings. Call 665-3238 for reservations.

And finally, it’s not really brunch but Isabella’s Day Spa in Orchid Village on Barbican is offering luscious-sounding beauty packages that comes with wine, finger food and a pastry. Call 970-0025 for reservations.
