Grants Pen tense after man killed, another injured in gun attack

The community of Grants Pen in St Andrew is tense following a shooting incident along Shortwood Lane late Monday that left one man dead and another injured.

The deceased is known as 'Tom Tom' and is reportedly the younger brother of a man who was held in a well-publicised shooting incident in Half-Way Tree two weeks ago. His older brother was held after allegedly attempting to shoot a man in the busy commercial district.

The other man who was shot is said to be a close relative of an influential member of the Grants Pen community.

The cops theorise that the incident was a result of an ongoing dispute over the gun used in the Half Way Tree shooting.

"(Family members) of the older brother were asked to pay back for the gun because it was used in an unsanctioned shooting in Half Way Tree and when the money wasn't paid, this is what happened. The community is tense because the nephew of (the community leader) was also shot, so the police are in the area doing a risk assessment," a source told Loop News reporter Claude Mills.
