Gary Subratie, Dane Dawkins team up to land double at Caymanas Park
Trainer Gary Subratie, jockey Dane Dawkins and owner-breeder, Michael Bernard, landed Saturday's late double at Caymanas Park, closing the 10-race card with MY SISTER and SOUL CURE, respectively.
MY SISTER, the 1-2 favourite, briefly disputed the lead with 56-1 outsider, ZEBRANO, before pulling away to score by two lengths in the five-furlong straight ninth event for horses who have never won an overnight allowance.
SOUL CURE broke sharply to dispute the lead with MYSTIC MAMA in the night pan, for three-year-old fillies only, and won a stretch duel to win the five-furlong round event as the 3-5 favourite.
Apprentice Reyan Lewis and six-time former champion jockey, Omar Walker, also had two winners on the card.
Walker opened his account with Philip Feanny's money-back favourite, United States-bred LEGALITY, in the second at seven and a half furlongs, romping home by four lengths at the expense of a hapless field of local-bred three-year-olds.
Walker afterward landed the Grooms' Association of Jamaica feature event with PAPA ALBERT, to join apprentice Christopher Mamdeen atop the jockeys' standings on 14 winners.
Aboard PAPA ALBERT, the 4-5 favourite, Walker disputed the lead with SWEET DESTINY before his mount proved stronger inside the last quarter-furlong, inching away to win the five-furlong straight event by two and three-quarter lengths.
Lewis opened the programme at seven and a half furlongs with 1-2 favourite, MASTER OF HALL, who returned from a five-month lay-up to sweep past MADAM SECRETARY a half-furlong out.
The three-kilo claimer returned two races later to make all aboard speedy ZI BEAST, winning at odds of 6-5, going five-furlong round with the favourite.
Meanwhile, racing continues at Caymanas Park with a holiday Ash Wednesday card featuring 11 races.
