Gang threats put Manchester police on high alert
The police in Manchester were up to Tuesday morning on high alert following reports that members of a gang have issued threats to carry out a series of unannounced public attacks in the parish in a bid to force the release of an alleged gang member who is in police custody.
"Several calls have been made to the police station (Mandeville) from individuals claiming to be members of a gang," a law enforcement officer from Manchester told Loop News late Monday.
The officer said the gang members are calling for the police to release a man who is the alleged leader of the Grey Ground gang in the parish.
Reports are that the accused was taken into custody last Friday, and is being questioned about a number of murders in the parish.
The cop told Loop News that the gang members have threatened to carry out attacks on members of the public.
As a result of the development, the police have gone on high alert across the parish.
