The policeman’s mother who was shot and killed by gunmen in Old Harbour, St Catherine earlier this year, is to be buried on Sunday, March 8.

The funeral service for the late Laetitia Francis is scheduled for the Old Harbour SDA Church at 10am.

Francis was attacked and shot dead at a shop which she operated from her home.

It was reported that her son had been involved in a fatal shooting days before the attack on her, and her killing was an act of reprisal for the death of a gunman in an armed confrontation with the police.

A suspect was subsequently arrested amid the probe into the murder of the policeman's mother.

Chairman of the Jamaica Police Federation, Detective Sergeant Patrae Rowe, who has condemned the incident, said on Sunday the federation will be leading a strong contingent of Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) members to the funeral service.

“Never again in this country should a police officer's mother/relative be killed because of his/her sworn duty to serve and protect the people of Jamaica,” said Rowe.

“We are still angry and we will not remain silent. Let us show our strength in numbers and support… (the officer) in numbers like we have never seen,” said Rowe

He added that the full fleet of federation buses will be made available to transport JCF members to the funeral.
