Hundreds of mourners are gathered at the Tritonville Baptist Church in Duanvale, Trelawny for the funeral service of the late Violet Moss Brown, who earlier this year became the world’s oldest person.

Moss Brown died on September 15 after a brief period of illness. She was 117.

Culture Minister Olivia "Babsy" Grange is among the dignitaries who have turned out to pay their respects to Moss Brown, whose body arrived at the church in a dark brown casket with gold handles.

Moss Brown, of Duanvale in Trelawny, was born on March 10, 1900. She became world's oldest person earlier this year after the death of previous oldest person, Emma Morano of Italy.

At the thanksgiving service that is ongoing at the Trittonville Baptist Church, Moss Brown is being hailed as an inspiration to several generations.
