Four murder accused freed in Trelawny; 'witnesses' fail to appear

Four men who were accused of the 2012 murder of Donovan Hazley in Martha Brae, Trelawny, were freed in the Trelawny Circuit Court last week.

The four: Nigel Brown, Kenton Mowatt, Dalton Johnson and Shayne Thompson, were set free after witnesses in the matter failed to come forward.

In September 2012, Hazley was set upon and chopped to death by a group of men who also firebombed his house in Zion, Martha Brae, Trelawny.

Hazley's daughter, who was 18 years’ old at the time, was also injured during the deadly attack.

The attack was speculated to have been in reprisal for the death of two boys from the same community, whose decomposing bodies were discovered in the nearby Martha Brae River the previous week, after they went missing for five days.

The four men were subsequently arrested and charged in relation to the killing.
